Workshop Course Descriptions

MEETING WITH AN ARTIST FOR COVER ART AND DESIGN SESSIONS

An artist will be available to help your staff with design ideas for covers and endsheets. This is an opportunity for you to see your design ideas come to life before your eyes. The artist will brainstorm with you and ask some questions about your school so it’s important for you to come prepared to make the most of your appointment time. If you have samples of artwork or photos you’d like to use, bring hard copies or a flash drive loaded with images. Choosing colors and fonts before the appointment will also save precious time.

Keynote Instructor: Erin Coggins, MJE

Erin has advised the yearbook and other journalistic publications at Sparkman High School for 16 years. She currently serves as the Journalism Education Association's Social Media Editor. She also serves on the executive board of the Southeastern Interscholastic Press Association. She has a Gold Key from Columbia Scholastic Press Association and has been recognized by the Dow Jones Newspaper Fund and the Alabama Scholastic Press Association for her work in the field. Erin loves sports, particularly the Golden State Warriors. Her favorite place to visit is St. John, USVI and all her children have paws. Erin says the best part of being a yearbook adviser is seeing the smiles when the final product arrives--oh, and viewing designing the yearbook like a JCREW outfit. After all, yearbook design is all about accessorizing!

Shining Star and Gold Pica Awards

The Shining Star Award is for perfect performance.  The Gold Pica Award is for design excellence in Cover, Spread, and Theme. Send your entries by June 1.

Fees

All materials, instruction, t-shirts, lunch and snacks provided for $75 per person.
